Why women do not deliver their babies vaginally as often as they used to do?

Is the pregnant woman responsible for the outcome of her pregnancy and her labor?

Is there anything she can learn from the previous generations? Let us try to reflect on the way of life and thinking of our mother or even better of our grandmother and see what happens.

First of all women at that time did not have the stress and fear of their pregnancy and childbirth, which they have today. At that time, pregnancy was treated as an entirely normal and healthy situation, although people did not have the medical means at our disposal today,  which provide us security.

That’s why you should calm down, ladies. Eliminate stress. Do not engage in “bad news about pregnancy” discussions and the sharing of such unpleasant stories. Think positive.

Whatever we put into our minds affects our body.

In the old days, women spent more hours standing up. They used to go to their destination on foot. They were not reluctant to get tired. They used to sit on wooden chairs that allowed them to hold up their trunk.

In contrast, today, the woman comes back home from work – where she spent most of her day sitting – by car. Perhaps the back of her car seat has a backward tilt to make it more comfortable. Then at home to rest, she sinks into her comfortable sofa, watching TV, with her trunk still leaning backwards. The many recommendations of doctors and her relatives for rest and caution lead her spending many hours lying on the bed. Other people rush to yell at her:”do not lift, do not bend your back…”.

Thus, we see that the axis of the pregnant woman which used to be mostly vertical with a forward tilt is nowadays tilted backwards. This does not help the baby’s head to be engaged into the pelvis.

How can you help your baby get engaged?

Try to keep your torso upright and / or slightly leaning forward. Big fitness balls help a lot in this. Buy a suitable size. When you sit on one of them, your hips should be a little higher than your knees. You can sit on the ball and eat, watch TV and relax. You can move lightly, right-to-left or front-to-back. This stretches and relieves the muscles of the trunk. Position your torso slightly forward by gently resting your arms on the table in front of you.

Walking should be part of your everyday life.

When you sit on the couch, put a cushion behind your back to help you stay upright. Moreover, many squats, help you to stretch your pelvic muscles and tendons.
