Prevention is an integrated approach that extends beyond a simple Pap smear, including a detailed history and many other medical tests. My goal is to identify and change habits or conditions that could cause a health problem in the future. The following tests are all done at the clinic:
- Pap smear test or Thin Prep pap test ( collection of cervical cells to detect dysplastic lesions)
- Vaginal fluid cultures – Antibiogram (sample of vaginal fluid sample with sterile cotton swab and microbiological analysis to identify the infective responsible microbe and the appropriate antibiotic)
- HPV test (detection of human papillomavirus DNA so that we know if the woman is a carrier and of which type )
- Vulvoscopy and Colposcopy (illuminated and magnified view of the vulva, vagina and cervix for the detection of HPV infections and cancer)
- Abdominal ultrasound (imaging of the uterus and ovaries)
- Transvaginal ultrasound (for better visualisation of the uterus and ovaries in women that have already had their first intercourse)
- Breast palpation
- Training in breast self-examination
- Breast ultrasound
- HPV vaccination
- Counseling on various gynaecological issues
- Emergency contraception
- Birth control counselling
