A young woman’s first gynecological exam should be a positive experience. A lot of questions need to be answered, counselling on various issues should be done and a timely identification of gynaecological health problems should be ensured. In my office I provide the following services for this group of women:
- Abdominal ultrasound (imaging of the uterus and ovaries)
- HPV vaccination (protection against certain HPV types)
- Breast examination
- Training in breast self-examination
- Breast ultrasound
- Counseling on personal gynaecological health, healthy sexual behaviour and understanding menstrual cycle.
For teens that have already had their first intercourse, the following services are also provided:
- Pap smear test or Thin Prep pap smear ( collection of cervical cells to detect dysplastic lesions)
- Vaginal fluid cultures – Antibiogram (sample of vaginal fluid sample with sterile cotton swab and microbiological analysis to identify the infective responsible microbe and the appropriate antibiotic)
- Transvaginal ultrasound (for better visualisation of the uterus and ovaries in women who already have had their first intercourse)
- Vulvoscopy and Colposcopy (illuminated and magnified view of the vulva, vagina and cervix for the detection of HPV infections and cancer)
- Emergency contraception
- Birth control counselling
